SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School

Together with the Spirit, we will create an oasis where every child matters.

Welcome

Welcome to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School

We are a Catholic primary school that has been established in Tyne Dock since 1889. The present school was built in the late 1960s.

Parents who send their child to a Catholic school do so because they desire for their children to have not only a good secular education, but also a meaningful, spiritual and moral education.

At SS Peter and Paul, we are committed to our Catholic education with Christ at the centre of everything we do.

We are extremely proud of our pupils who are supported in their learning by dedicated staff, working in partnership with the Parish, Trust and parents.

We encourage you to be actively involved in your child’s education. You can find more information about school events, staff, the curriculum, after-school clubs and extra-curricular activities on our website or by following us on Facebook.

We look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you and your family.

We share a daily act of collective worship as a class or school family.

Our curriculum is designed to promote the intellectual, physical, emotional, personal, social and cultural development of each pupil, helping children develop a thirst for knowledge, a toolkit of skills and an aspirational approach to their future.

  • We create a happy and safe learning environment where everyone is encouraged to give their best.
  • We develop lively and enquiring minds and the ability to question and reason.
  • We provide a balanced curriculum suited to the individual needs of the pupil.
  • We provide an exciting curriculum with opportunities for co-operation and preparation for life in the 21st century.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

We are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff.

We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and, at times, anyone may need additional emotional support.

We believe that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.

Our Child Wellbeing Lead and Mental Health Champions lead friendship and emotional resilience groups in school.

Behaviour

The school has a behaviour and anti-bullying policy. We are very proud of how children behave both in and out of school.

We appreciate parents’ partnership in maintaining these high standards.

SEND & Safeguarding

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Every child is a unique gift from God with their individual needs and talents. Our school works in partnership with parents to ensure these needs are identified and plans are developed to meet them.

Our aims in teaching children with Special Educational Needs are:

  • Children will be identified and assessed as early as possible.
  • Children will have access to a broad and balanced education.
  • Parents will be fully informed and encouraged to be actively involved in partnership with school.
  • We will liaise effectively with outside agencies where needed.

Safeguarding

All school staff have undertaken training in safeguarding and child protection. Senior staff take full responsibility for safeguarding and designated Safeguarding Officers are in place.

As a school, we work closely with South Tyneside and Clennell Education Solutions Safeguarding teams.

We follow the guidance of Keeping Children Safe in Education and constantly update our safeguarding procedures to ensure school is a safe and secure environment for all. All staff are DBS checked before they can work in school.
