Live Simply Award

Live Simply, Care Deeply

At SS Peter and Paul we’re proud to have earned the Live Simply Award. Our whole school community worked together to show how we can live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with communities around the world experiencing poverty.

In September 2025, a group of our pupils met with CAFOD’s Live Simply assessor, who was impressed by their energy, creativity, and thoughtful ideas for future projects—clearly showing that the Live Simply ethos is deeply rooted in our school.

Our Nine Projects

To achieve the award, we embraced nine pupil-led projects across three strands: Global, Local and School-Led.

Global Projects

  • CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk: whole school walking to raise funds to help CAFOD’s work with our global family, supporting people in need and those living in poverty.
  • World gifts: CAFOD assembly followed by each class creating ways to raise funds for gifts supporting our global neighbours.
  • World Day of Peace: prayers and learning about developing peace, especially for countries and communities most affected by conflict.

Local Projects

  • Care Home: pupils visit residents to talk, play games, sing carols and share time and gifts at Christmas.
  • Food bank: each term we collect items in a shopping trolley to donate to our local food bank, The Key Project.
  • CAFOD community & parish coffee mornings: pupils host coffee mornings for parishioners and care home friends, singing and spending time together.

School-Led Projects

  • Disconnect to Reconnect Day: switching off electrical appliances and taking part in outdoor learning to reduce electricity use and our carbon footprint.
  • Live Simply Pledge: pupils, staff and governors write pledges to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the world’s poorest communities.
  • Uniform swap: termly uniform and clothes swap to reuse and recycle items, helping reduce waste.

Continuing the Journey

The spirit of the award continues at SS Peter and Paul, where we:

  • Host termly coffee mornings sharing our time with others.
  • Reduce food waste with the Eat Smart Project.
  • Work together to create a climate action plan.
  • Make links with the Justice and Peace Refugee Project.
  • Create ways to boost biodiversity around the school.

At SS Peter and Paul, living simply isn’t a one-off project—it’s who we are.
