Class of 2012

Welcome to Year 5 2017-2018

A very thoughtful collective worship in Year 5 this morning. We reflected on the bravery of Maximilian Kolbe and Oscar Romero. We listened to Luke 12: 22-31 and reminded ourselves that God is always with us to help us in difficult times. The candle reminds us of God’s presence, the rock to represent the difficulties we have to overcome and the El Salvador cross to remind us of Oscar Romero.

Year 5 planned and led a special collective worship in class this week. We thought about the impact of hurricane Irma and prayed for the families coming to terms with their loss and heart ache.

In our current RE topic, Year 5 have been learning about ‘ourselves’. We recognise each others qualities. God tells us to use our qualities to help others and live a peaceful life. After listening to St Paul’s letter about being a peacemaker we used role play to work out how to resolve conflict.

In our science topic, Year 5 have been investigating the life cycles of living things. We have been dissecting plants to find out how they reproduce. We are currently investigating the best conditions for growing broad beans.

Do you know which celebrity has the most Twitter followers? Year 5 do! Today they were ordering numbers over 1 million to find out which twitter users were most popular

Inside the lost property cases: a “very old” wedding dress and diamonds; a tightrope, book and shoes; a blanket and cuddly toy.
Y4 are busy developing their writing around these-it’s a lot of fun!

Megan has been so captivated by our lost property writing that she has brought her own item into the “office”! Rather cleverly, she has linked the contents to our class novel. Well done and thank you, Megan!

A huge “thank you” to Zoe at the Guide Dogs charity from Year 4. They are all bringing a sandwich home for tea that they made blindfolded. It was quite a challenge!

Year 4 will be working in our Lost Property Office this week. We are off to a flying start with three very different suitcases of left luggage. Want to know what’s inside? Check back through the week to find out!
