Science Week in Nursery

Nursery had a great time with GreenShift Education during British Science Week. The Nursery children took part in a range of activities all about their senses. We had great fun using different senses while wearing blindfolds! Listening to sounds and guessing what it was, tasting different fruit and guessing what it was, touching different items in a bag without peeking and guessing what it was.

Our favourite game was dropping the coin into the cup with one eye closed!

North East Special Leaders Award. Winners 2016

Congratulations to Holly Davis (Y4) and Lana McKenzie (Y2) who were winners in their age category for their entries into the North East Special Leaders Award.

Holly’s winning entry was the ‘Tent in a can’. A very imaginative design which allowed for quick assembly of a tent with the added bonus of a button that could be pressed and the tent automatically folded itself back up to fit into the can!

Lana’s winning entry was called the ‘Power-o-matic’. It was a cleverly designed machine that you could step into if you needed a super power for the day or just needed an extra boost for the day!

Well done to all that entered the competition with their fabulous designs!

Town Twinning Project

The children in Year 3 and 4 had a great opportunity this year to become paired with some children in a partner school in Epinay in France. We received some letters from the children in France telling us all about their school, home town and about themselves.

Children in Year 3 and 4 responded with letters and pictures of our school, our area and our classes. We wrote back to the children in French to practice our French skills and the children in Epinay wrote to us in English.

The Year 4 children were fortunate enough to have two special visitors from Epinay, one of our visitors attended our partner school when she was a little girl and our visitors gave us lots of great information about the school and Epinay. It was a great experience for the children to speak to our French visitors and test out their French skills!

We hope we will keep in touch with our partner school next year!  image_1image_3image_4image_5

STEM day

On Friday 10th June, the whole school had the opportunity to discover and explore STEM. The children had the opportunity to meet two engineers from Rolls Royce who worked with each class. The children found out lots of fascinating facts about aeroplane engines and had lots of questions for the engineers!

What a day we have had, we started at Infinite Air on the FreeJump course with over 40 trampolines and box sections, we bounced all over the place. We also did the Bag Jump, standing at nearly 3 metres above the podium floor, we looked down on to the huge airbag, and all eyes were on us. We were at the highest point in Infinite Air, looking out over the whole park, waiting to jump! We nearly all did it!

We also had a fantastic day full of challenge at Beamish Wild. We had the opportunity to learn how to manage risk in a controlled environment and overcome our fears with the support of our friends whilst having FUN.

We all attended a safety briefing and practiced our skills on the ground before heading to the treetops. Beamish Wild’s staff were on hand to supervise us at all times, throughout our high ropes experience which were really, really high and scary.

We hope you enjoy our photos as much as we have enjoyed our day.

Mrs Lawson.
