This morning Year 2 visited the Cenotaph at West Park to pay our respects to all fallen soldiers who have died both in war and peace time. On our return to school we laid special stones in the prayer garden and took time to reflect on the day with our own prayers.
A gentle reminder that our liturgy is this coming Wednesday at 2:30pm.
Teaching our children about the significance of Remembrance Day and why people wear a poppy is not always an easy thing to do.
Today in class we watched a short animation produced by CBeebies. It is simply entitled ‘Poppies’ and helps to convey the notion of remembrance in a way that would resonate with a young audience.
After watching this we decided to make our own poppies to help us remember. Later in the day we took our poppies to the prayer wall in our prayer garden and placed a painted stone on the poppy made by all our friends in school.
Today the School Council have embarked on a mission to help a newly established trust to raise funds. We are supporting the Together Forever Trust. The trust has been set up in memory of Liam Curry and Chloe Rutherford. The aims of the trust are to help children achieve their dreams and reach their full potential in sport and performance. From tomorrow the School Council will be selling wristbands at a cost of £1.00. The bands will also be available from Mrs Hawkins in Y1 after school if any parents would like to pop in and purchase adult or child size wristbands too.
The children are committed to supporting this cause and are very enthusiastic about raising as much as we can to help the trust over the months ahead.
The children from the School Council are designing a poster to advertise the wristbands so watch out for it over the next few days.
Congratulations to our new school buddies 2017-2018
This year our buddies will be very busy organising playground games and termly inter house playground competitions. They will also be there as pupil support at play and lunch times ensuring that friendship is at the centre of our play. Well done buddies I’m looking forward to working with you this year. Yesterday we were learning about Judaism. We welcomed Deanna into our school and we were very lucky to spend time with her learning about the creation story and about a very special, holy day in their week. Tonight we will be bringing home our very special glasses. Ask us about these glasses and why we use them.
Yesterday the Rise Theatre Company visited school. Years 5 and 6 participated in workshops and the whole school enjoyed a play about Oscar Romero. The key messages were YOU MATTER and LOVE NEVER GIVES UP.
